Night watch was always a bit slow. Even on the supposedly-haunted night of Samhain, Ariel wasn't expecting any trouble.
The Irish and British slaves in the village were all terrified of this particular evening, but every sensible viking girl
knew that the elves and spirits came out at mid-winter, not this strange date at the end of October. In fact it was hardly
worth keeping any sort of watch at all, it had been years since any neighbours had come raiding and the Irish and British
couldn't muster any decent navigators to get them up the fjord. And it had been a hard day, bringing the sheep down from
the high pastures. She was soooo tired! Might as well set up watch by the old barrow. Another place the Irish slaves swore
was haunted....
