Miss Smith was doing a fabulous job prosecuting the mobsters. Everyone said so, she knew. No false modesty, she was damn good at her job. So good that the mobsters themselves sat up and took notice. They needed a hot-shot lawyer- why not grab the most effective one in the city? Surely a few ropes and a little persuasion could be applied to see that her best interests would be served by defending, instead of prosecuting?
