It is weird, owning a house old enough that it would genuinely have had servants! We've shot in a few (they're hardly in short supply in Europe) but until we were lucky enough to do our move from a super-expensive part of the country to a super-cheap part we never thought we'd ever own one. It does lend itself to stories of calculated cruelty towards the poor enslaved staff, wicked moustache-stroking paterfamilias and poor chamber-maids!
