The other crusaders were very suspicious of Sir Nicholas of Creusen. He ate alone, slept alone, drank alone. Visited the latrine only first thing in the morning before anyone else rose. Wore his armour and helmet around the camp even when the Saracens were miles away. Sir Bors did a little fishing around. Only a few people had heard of Creusen, and Sir Wilhelm swore that old Anders of Creusen had no sons. Bors' suspicions grew after they sacked a harem camel train and Sir Nicholas was nowhere to be seen. What sort of crusader didn't take part in a little light rape and pillage?

Bors and the others surprised Sir Nicholas on his return to camp the evening after. Feigning that they were drunk, they reeled into Sir Nicholas, knocking him off blanace and sending his sword flying. Then Sir Bors grabbed him and yanked off his helmet. A gasp arose from the company: Sir Nicholas was a woman!

The knights bound her over a rough table. Ignoring her pleas to trest her with respect, to remember her valiance on the field of battle, they stuffed her mouth full of cloth to silence her. Then they bound her tightly with ropes and stripped off her boots to reveal the soft soles of her bare feet. Scalding pitch and a savage bastinado would make it clear to her than imitating a man was a very, very dangerous thing to do.

Just as the pitch came to the boil, Sir Bors stopped his companions. "Pity to waste her. You can torture her later. I haven't had a woman in four months, and this one is gonna get it."
