It hadn't been a great year on the farm, and it seemed to bring out the worst in him. He always was a bit of a scum-bag, but this latest stunt was a new low. Skipping out after the harvest was done, leaving her to face the wratch of the hired hands who had been slaving away on the farm for the last week... and not leaving a penny with which to pay them! Mind you, maybe he knew about her and Jake. That might explain why he was quite so keen to have them take their pay out of her...
